We're a little shy about victories over here, but we gotta shout it this time! Our Franklin Street project just won a Baltimore Magazine Home & Design Award for Open Floor Plan—and we couldn’t be more psyched!

This was a dream transformation. The 2,000-square-foot third floor of an 1860s Mt. Vernon townhome started as a completely blank slate—white walls, no design scheme yet, just soaring ceilings and an old elevator in the center of it all. The clients started making headway with the renovation, but came to me after feeling a little stuck in design direction.

Before & After: From Raw Shell to Refined Retreat

When we were invited to see the space, the owners were in the process of renovating. They were trying to figure out how to blend their two styles together and how to create cohesion in such a large space. They had just recently renovated the second floor into a blend of both styles—she, bohemian luxury and he, masculine dark—between the bedroom and living room and it works. But since this space was just an open expanse, mixing the two styles became a challenge and I was ready for it!

Here's a look at the before.

Details That Made the Difference

To bring the space to life, we:

  • Created two functional zones: kitchen + dining on the north end, family room on the south.

  • Layered in natural textures—Moroccan Zellige tile, brass fixtures, and a mix of vintage rugs.

  • Designed custom millwork cabinetry in a vintage stain of blue with Bmore Reclaimed to balance old-world charm with modern needs.

  • Commissioned a hand-painted mural by our own Drury Bynum to ground the space and echo its artistic spirit.

  • Brought in lush plant life, including a dramatic living wall, designed by Hilton Carter and surrounded the staircase in gorgeous textural lime wash.

  • Added new found light by opening the ceiling with a skylight over the staircase.

The result is a warm, personal home that feels open yet intimate—modern, soulful, and built to inspire.

Here's the after. A rich, layered mix that feels transformative and other worldly.
